new dump! Xin Feng Shen Bang

well! THIS was unexpected. But sometimes things happen and then suddenly you have a new Vast Fame game to play with. it's called Xin Feng Shen Bang (新封神榜), it's sort of a modern retelling of the 16th century Chinese novel Feng Shen Bang in RPG form, and it seems pretty excellent. but it's also in Chinese so I can't really tell what's going on.

this dump was taken from this 12 in 1, so if you want to see cart pictures or anything they're all on the aforelinked wiki page.

as per usual with these dumps i'm posting an untouched and a fixed version, but the only difference is in the header, allowing the game to save in emulators. The header actually doesn't matter to a real Game Boy - it was (apparently) originally intended for internal use in Nintendo's factories, so unlicensed developers didn't have to bother with such things. but emulators always assume a correctly set header too, so here we are. Maybe there's an unfulfilled need for a new Game Boy ROM format that actually contains this info outside of the game data.. maybe. anyway, roms!

fixed: Xin Feng Shen Bang (Unlicensed, Chinese) (Multicart Rip) [Header Fix].zip

ugh my filenames are getting pretty long and unwieldy now arent they D:

Also, on the subject of Vast Fame games and headers and such - my dump of Shi Kong Xing Shou from the same 12 in 1 from ages ago has a few problems with saving (which seem to vary depending on the emu you're using), and I *think* this is because the save size in the header was set incorrectly; I mean I don't actually know these things for sure but it seems to be the case (hey, I'm learning). so I'm also posting a fixed version of that for your enjoyment here. And the original, even though it's unchanged, because, hey, consistency.

If it's of any interest, that screenshot with VF in it says that the main character picked up VF bug spray. Guess VF like naming items after themselves, though it's funny they choose bug spray.

yeah I was wondering about that actually. thanks! :D speaking of which, do you happen to know what the VF reference in Millionaire/Crazy Richman 2's intro is about?

So, was this just a random fluke, or is there any possibility that some of the other games on the 12-in-1 might also get dumped? (Yeah, I kind of want to see Devil Island...)

ah I wish I could dump Devil Island ... but I only managed to get this one because I have some new dumping hardware (a Smartboy, but it's based on an open design so there are a bunch of other variations floating around) and, unlike my old one (a GB Transferer 2), you can ignore the cart header and force it to dump a certain ROM size. Dumping 4mb from the 12 in 1 got me a dump containing both Shi Kong Xing Shou & Xin Feng Shen Bang, but I've attempted to dump more than that and it just repeats the same 4mb over again with a bit of corrupted data overwriting the start of Shi Kong. I'm guessing the games are all stored in 4mb banks and the cart uses some kind of hardware trickery to switch between them, but I have no idea if it'd be possible to recreate it using the Smartboy.

I do also have a single cart version, published by "SL", but that has some kind of super invincible protection that causes both of my dumpers to not even recognise the thing :( Li Cheng released it too, though, and theirs may well prove easier to dump, if I could ever track it down. so it's definitely on my dumping radar but remains frustratingly out of reach in, like, three different ways at the moment.

I'm so happy to see one of my favorite V.Fame titles dumped. Let's hope we get even more of their games dumped!

Just realized I completely forgot about this one, made some progress a year or so ago.

I ripped some of the music from Xin Feng Shen Bang but it's nowhere near complete as it's only 4 tracks and really the only 4 that are worth listening to.
